Snow Day!

A few days after Christmas we decided to head up to Pine Valley to enjoy the snow.  We were just going to go for a few hours and then all of the adults were going to go out to dinner.  We headed up around 1:00 and we had reservations at 6:30.

We put Sadie & Stockton on the sled to go for a little ride.

The kids were so excited to show their Forest cousins and Alli the new tree house.  There was room for all of them inside.

Alli and Emma had fun going down the little hill.  It was perfect for them because they didn't have to walk up a huge hill and it was just the right size.  I love the looks on their faces in this picture!

The big kids went to find a bigger hill to go down.  Then they decided to check out the field and see how much snow there was.  It was a beautiful day!

Ady wanted to experience the big hill too and on her first run she went pretty fast and went up the berm at the bottom.  When I got to her she was crying but it didn't take long for her to want to go again.  She figured out that she needed to put her hands down toward the bottom to slow herself down. She was so cute hiking up the hill and flying down on her sled.

I was getting cold so we decided to head back to the cabin but my little girl was hot from all of her hiking.  She had a blast. 

We wanted to leave no later than 5:00 so we could make it back for our dinner reservations.  As we were packing up to head home Brian announced that he had last his keys.  He figured he must have lost them in the snow somewhere so we searched all over in the snow, searched the cabin, looked everywhere but to no avail.  Mean while, my brother Britt decided they would head home and as they were trying to get out they got their car stuck.  We realized that we were going to be pushing it to make our reservations so we called and pushed them back to 7:30.  We loaded all of the kids in my car to watch a movie and be where it was warm while the adults went to work on the car. 

I had about 9 or 10 kids crammed in my car trying to stay warm.  I think that they had a pretty good time.

The tractor started right up and things looked promising.

When we first hooked it up it pulled the car about 40 or 50 feet...only about 10 or 15 feet to go when the tractor could no longer pull the car.  We were so close.  We tried everything!  About that time Brian's father-in-law showed up with the spare keys to the truck.  We moved the tractor out of the way and backed the truck down to see what it could do.  

This is Britt right after we moved the tractor.  He was walking back to the car when he slipped and fell.  By this time we were all so tired and just wanting to be done.  Once we got the car hooked up to the truck he was unstuck in a matter of minutes.  

It was now a little after 7:00 and so we just cancelled our reservations.  The kids had been in the car watching movies for almost 2 hours and were ready to get home. We headed down the mountain with most of the kids.  I called my sister on the way and she said they had bought pizza on were on there way up to meet us so we could eat something.  We met them in Central and had a bite to eat as we headed home.  It was nice to not have to worry about dinner after our long day.  On the drive home my brother pulled over thinking he had a flat tire and then we ran over something dead in the middle of the road (we think it was a coyote or maybe a deer).  It made some bad noise as we drove over it but thankfully our car wasn't too low to the ground or it could have caused some serious damage.  

We had a really fun day and ended it with a night that we won't soon forget!  One more reason why I am glad I don't live in the snow:)
