Air Show

 A couple of weeks ago we went to Thunder Over Utah that was held at the new St. George airport.  We went with my parents and planned for a fun day out in the sun.  Unfortunately, there were more clouds than sun and a little too much wind.  Oh well - we still had a great time!

The night before the air show we decided to drive out to the airport and we were able to watch this plane land.  It is HUGE!

This airplane was seriously HUGE inside.  I can't imagine it being full of equipment.

Ady was excited to see Chopper 5 again because it came to her school a few months ago.

There were lots of airplanes and helicopters on display  that we got to walk around and see while we were waiting for the show to start.

The first plane that flew was called the F22 Raptor and it was pretty amazing.  It was sooooo loud and extremely fast.  I think they said it could go about 1200 miles an hour.  At one point it flew straight up in the air and then looked like it was just falling out of the sky.  

 

 

This is the F22 Raptor on the ground.  Stockton slept through the extremely loud demonstration but Sadie did not appreciate the noise at all.  We had earplugs for everybody thankfully but Sadie wasn't really happy...plus she was tired.

This is Stockton's funny face that he kept pulling for about two weeks.  It is hilarious.  We put ear plugs in the babies ears and then put headbands over the top so they would stay in.  They looked a little silly but it worked!

We had some lunch while they did a World War 2 reenactment with old airplanes and tanks.  They shot a flame thrower which was pretty cool to see.  They also had a lady who stood on the wings of an old fashioned airplane while it did twists and turns and loopdy loos.

They it was time for the Blue Angels.

They announcer said that airplanes had only an 18 inch gap between them.  They looked so close and it was just amazing to see them and the tricks they did. 

The Blue Angels weren't as loud as the Raptor and Sadie was happy about that.

Most of the time there was just 4 or 5 of the 6 planes that did formations together.  This one they had all 6 planes.  It looked like they were going to hit each other...amazing!

The day was really fun besides some wind (which got REALLY bad as soon as the show ended).  We were covered in dirt and could barely make it through the dirt parking lot.  The other bad part was the parking.  IT wasn't so bad getting in (although that took a while) but getting out was really interesting.  It was funny because they had tons of people helping with the parking on the way in and then NOBODY helping on the way out.  It was impossible to tell where you were supposed to go.  We spent about 30 minutes sitting in a line with out moving once so we finally turned around and just started driving.  We just observed for a while so we could figure out what was going on and there were cars going in every direction.  It was actually pretty hilarious to watch.  We finally just started driving to wear we thought an exit might be and finally got out.  It took as about an hour to get out but we heard of other who were in there for two hours.

The airshow was a lot of fun and the girls were great.  I would love to go again on a day that had a little better weather:)
